Cooking for Mahesh's birthday has always been special, especially since he loves home cooked food so much. Its always something to do with potatoes, it being his favorite vegetable. And with the girls being so enthusiastic to help , we enjoy cooking for Mahesh on his birthday. Being in California this year, we had hi uncle and aunt and Pallavi too over for his birthday dinner. The final menu consisted of:
Vegan zucchini pad thai noodles,Vada Paav, Vegan Brocolli Soup , Sun dried tomatoes hummus with taco chips and Gajar ka Halwa for dessert. The girls did the gajar halwa part completely by themselves with no help from me. Shreedhari grated the carrots while the elder did the cooking .
The girls loved cooking for their dad. Shruthkirti as usual went the extra length to set the table and made neat name tags for each dish! Overall a lovely birthday evening!
These are the days when Im really glad that the girls love to participate in cooking. Food becomes a medium of bonding for the whole family rather than the mom slaving in the kitchen and everyone else eating . Cooking together brings forth conversations , ideas, reflections and a sense of a family production. Everyone has some part in it that they can relate to. On days like these when we actually sit to eat , all of us who cooked have something to share about the cooking process . Its really awesome!
