Sept 28, 2015- Community Connections : Cooking dinner for our neighbors

Our next door family recently delivered a baby and we decided to cook and give them dinner one night.
We cooked a traditional Indian dinner of Aloo Parathas, Palak Paneer and Vegetable Pulao.  The girls pitched in as usual with both of them helping with all the chopping and Shruthkirti in making the aloo parathas. Long time back in India itself, she had started to show great interest in making rotis and parathas. She seems really good at it and mostly enjoys working with the flour whether kneading the dough or rolling the rotis and cooking them on the gas. Today she got further practice at making stuffed parathas.
I'm also happy on such ideas where the girls pitch in to do something for others. Whether cooking a dinner like this or for guests , cooking dessert for a party or making potluck, I see them as connecting to community and to the world around them and being so enthusiastic about it. I'm so proud of my girls and love cooking with them on such occasions. It connects our family in such a meaningful, fun way.
